Your first visit

Our patients are thrilled and sometimes surprised that the dentist spends so much time with them at their initial visit. Drs. Herrmann and Desio want to provide dental treatment that is based on your individual situation, goals, and personality. That means we need to get to know you and your mouth well before beginning any treatment.  You are unique, so therefore your first visit will be unique. It will probably include a review of your medical history and any medications you are taking, an oral cancer screening, examination of your jaw joints, bite, gums, and teeth. We will decide if any x-rays or other tests are needed. As we go along, we will show you what we find. Together with your input, all this information will help you and your dentist select the safest and most effective method of treatment for you.

In most cases you will have your teeth cleaned at your second  visit.

Regular Checkups

We encourage regular checkups for individuals age three and up. Most people find that it is valuable to have a checkup at least every six months so Drs. Herrmann and Desio can:

• Check for problems that you might not see or feel
• Find early signs of decay
• Treat oral health problems early, while they are still manageable

Regular checkups include a thorough cleaning, polishing, and an oral exam by the doctor. During the oral exam, Drs. Herrmann and Desio check the health of your mouth, teeth, gums, cheeks, and tongue. At each visit, Drs. Herrmann and Desio also check old fillings and restorations because constant pressure from chewing, grinding, or clenching can cause them to wear away, chip, or crack.

Regular checkup appointments typically take 40 to 60 minutes. Patients are seen by appointment only. We make every effort to be on time for our patients, and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately.
